GROWTH OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY IN UKRAINE
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reports a rapid growth of detected counterfeit banknotes. The regulator withdrew from circulation 1.7 million hryvnias in 2016, which constitutes an increase by 40% compared with 2015, according to the annual report of the National Bank. The number of withdrawn counterfeits remained the same – 7,000 banknotes. The increase in the volume of counterfeiting is caused by the fact that the fraudsters are reoriented to fake larger denominations. In the leaders of fakes, from the 4th place a year earlier, a banknote with a face value of UAH 500 was knocked out. The banknote featuring Grigory Skovoroda turned out to be false in 2679 cases, experts of the National Bank say. For a year, the volume of counterfeit notes became 2.6 times higher, and for two years – 4 times higher.
